I am relieved to hear a positive childhood story from a trans woman. Our daughter has had a lovely childhood, and when she decided to transition, we went all in. It was easier for her than it was for us, and we have moved to Canada in hopes that it will remain easier for her. I hope she sees women like you, Ari, who are willing to say that transitioning wasn't a result of trauma, but a result of a search for wholeness and joy, so that she can embrace the beauty that is her own. Thank you for sharing.

> "... from a trans woman."

"transwoman" -- compound word like "crayfish" which ain't. Ari simply isn't a woman, an adult human female, and he won't ever be one. He is, at best, simply a male transvestite, a guy in drag if he still has his nuts attached, and a sexless eunuch if he doesn't.

My daughter, who is educating me in entities like you, whether you are an actual human or a bot, would say that you are either a chaser or an egg. You don’t have to answer to one or the other, I am just sharing what I think about your post in reply to my post.🙄

I'm sorry you have to deal with bigoted people like this one

🙄 Julie is just tricking her son?, daughter? into thinking they can change sex -- which is a medical and biological impossibility.

Someone should call Child Protection Services on Julie and have her child taken away.

You both might want to read this old Slate article by Michele Goldberg -- although I doubt either of you are capable of it --and her interview of another transwoman, "Helen Highwater":

Slate: The Trans Women Who Say That Trans Women Aren’t Women

Meet the apostates of the trans rights movement. .... Yet [he, Highwater] has come to reject the idea that [he] is truly female or that [he] ever will be. Though “trans women are women” has become a trans rights rallying cry, Highwater writes, it primes trans women for failure, disappointment, and cognitive dissonance. [He] calls it a “vicious lie.”

"Vicious lie" doesn't begin to cover it, something that Julie and Ari are tricking her daughter/son? and others into believing.

Repent, spawn of Satan, & embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ, or you may burn in hellfire for all eternity. To think you took it upon yourself to do the devil's work on our Holy Saturday; when your thoughts should be on our Lord's sacrifice & resurrection. It fills me with pitty, I pray for your immortal soul, that you may delight in his will & walk in his way.

🙄 "answer to one or the other"? "Human or bot"? Just a "meat puppet". "chaser or egg"? You mean testicle haver or ovary haver? I'll admit to the former, though whether that qualifies me as a male or not is maybe moot. "Wun Hung Lo" -- famous Chinese restaurant chain ...

But how about your "daughter"?

Somewhat apropos of which, I'm sure that you'll appreciate this rather amusing cartoon on "progressive parenting" from Pat Cross:

Why are you reading a trans page? Repper much?

Steersman's avatar

🙄 Repper/representative for whom? Transloonie nutcases? Not a chance. I figure most if not all of them should be in institutions for the criminally insane.

Someone has to be something in the way of "The Voice of Reason", as most transactivists have clearly lost most of their marbles, are literally out of their effen minds in thinking and claiming they have changed or can change sex.

Rather astounding how so many supposedly sane and rational adults have given credence and currency for so long to transactivists' batshit crazy ideas on gender.

DukeDank's avatar

You are an aspiring representative of the devil. You also butcher my beautiful mother tongue & are probably ugly.

Steersman's avatar

🙄 Just the facts, man, just the facts. And the devils in those details.

While you might note or insist that even the devil can quote scripture, you might read Genesis -- 1:22 if memory serves -- about how Jehovah created male and female, Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

And transwomen are, in point of fact, just males, guys in drag if they still have their nuts attached and sexless eunuchs if they don't -- there being no mention in the Bible that those states were "immutable".

One might argue that religious people, Christians in particular, who accept, endorse, and promote the claim that transwomen have changed sex, and are actually females are the ones doing the devil's work.

this fucking HITS. the bit about watching your life from roughly six inches behind your head, always aware of some form of perspective dissonance between who you want to see and who you're seeing, is so clearly how I feel now. It's monumentally unfair that the burden of proving our joy - in childhoods especially - falls on us at the moment. I empathize so much with everything you put forward this piece, and I also want to take time to recognize that societally, we never should've gotten to a place in which us trans folk had to get so practiced about our Grand Life Story™ that we're subtly optimizing it to better fit expected narratives.

Thank you for your vulnerability. I don't mean to sound too parasocial, I just really appreciate the levels of honesty and authenticity in your work.

> "... some form of perspective dissonance between who you want to see and who you're seeing ..."

Maybe, at least in the case of Ari, because he wasn't like the other girls? Because he had testicles and they had ovaries? Just a thought ...

THAT is, more or less, the defining difference between males and females, a principle that holds across literally millions of species, at least to a first approximation. Every last male on the planet -- and for the last billion years or so -- exhibits or has exhibited spermatogenesis, the production of small reproductive cells (AKA, sperm), typically in testicles among mammals. And every last female on the planet -- and for the last billion years or so, but who's counting ... -- exhibits or has exhibited oogenesis, the production of large reproductive cells (AKA, ova), typically in ovaries in mammals. It is the presence of those two profoundly different but complementary processes that qualify as the necessary and sufficient conditions to be counted as males or females, respectively.

the internal rot that compels you to be this is way never going to go away, you know. if you continue to indulge your own frustrations, you will remain a joyless husk approximating a human. I am at least choosing, proactively, to live. You will never be able to make that choice, because, when confronted with reality. your world fits inside your head but it is not the world

🙄 Words mean things. They have social consequences. Claiming to be something you're not is no way to live. And the consequences of doing so are often fatal, one way or another:

Part of my post -- pending -- at the sadly misnamed "Science Based Medicine":

QUOTE: USA Today: Nurse mistakes pregnant [transman] as obese. Then, the [transman] births a stillborn baby

Archive link: https://archive.ph/1MdGj USA Today original (dead link): https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2019/05/16/pregnant-transgender-man-births-stillborn-baby-hospital-missed-labor-signs/3692201002/

More recently:

NY Times: The Transgender Cancer Patient and What [He] Heard on Tape .... Jennifer Capasso, a 42-year-old [transwoman], figured there was a good chance she would be dead within 18 months. ... [He, Capasso] had been asked to take a pregnancy test, a routine preoperative step for female patients. ...

The guy should have been charged for that test -- double -- if not for fraud. The thing is that "self-identification" really doesn't cut the mustard, is entirely useless when it comes to claiming rights to services and opportunities dependent on membership in objectively quantifiable categories. As you said, words mean things, so here's some: take your sad, pathetic ass out of here and go touch some grass. Maybe consider doing something to add some value into the world, instead of further diminishing it.

My childhood was similar. Somewhat. I wasn't extravagantly popular. I was an introvert, bullied plenty though not in excess. The girl was there the whole time; peaking through the surface. More at certain times. Less so at others. But I managed to make "boy" work well enough to convince a crowd that maybe didn't need *that much* convincing.

I don't often tell my story, but those who do hear it will not hear about the joys I worked so hard to scratch away from the bare rock. And the people who knew me by that facade likely leverage those memories against my legitimacy.

Thank you for sharing this.

My story also I didn't really fit in but I wasn't overtly bullied.

I've always wondered if I would find someone who felt about their childhood and adolescence the same way I felt about mine. I had a good near two decades of life that was followed up by another decade of not understanding why I didn't feel like a real person and that I was keeping up a life waiting for someone else to come and take it over. It feels so wrong that I didn't externally suffer enough to warrant throwing away a life that looks so enviable to the outside world. Thank you for sharing. It means a lot to me right now.

Well that was a beautiful and perspective-shifting read. Thank you.

This is so about neuropathways and how the hard stuff does have a natural pull anyhow--it's what the brain wants to fix. And then the hard stuff is how we identify, how we belong, in a world that too often hates trans people. And yet true belonging is bringing all of who we are. Not having to leave any part of ourselves outside in order to find acceptance.

My experience is the opposite of yours--my childhood was at least 90% trauma, and for most of my life many people wanted nothing to do with that. Once I could have the hard heard, I found I could strengthen the pathways of joy and support (without toxic positivity or minimization), which did also happen. I can titrate.

Really, in the end, it's about holding all of what happened, all of who we are, until we can let the weight of it go and become lighter. Become light.

You simply haven't "transitioned" to another sex, to an actual female.
