The New Transsexual is opening an opinion section, run the way a good op-ed page should be: edited, fact-checked, and paid.
What we’re looking for: essays and op-eds from trans and allied writers, roughly 800 to 1,500 words, on culture, media, and politics. Arguments, reported observations, first-person essays with a point. If cis people are learning their genders from us, this is a place where we do the teaching on our own terms.
Pay: $150 per published essay, paid on publication. Not exposure. Money.
How to pitch: email pitches@thenewtranssexual.com with two or three sentences on what you want to write and why you’re the person to write it, plus a line about who you are. Links to past work help but aren’t required; we’re glad to work with first-time writers. Please pitch before writing the full draft.
How editing works: every accepted piece gets a real editorial pass and a fact-check. Factual claims need sources you can show us. We’ll work with you on drafts; you approve the final version before it runs under your byline.
What we won’t run: attacks on private individuals, engagement bait, or anything we can’t stand behind factually. Pseudonyms are considered case by case where safety requires it, but we’ll always know who you are.
Rights: you keep your work. We ask for first publication and the right to keep the piece in our archive; republish it elsewhere after two weeks with a note that it first appeared here.
What is your criteria for someone to be “transsexual”? I was born 70+ years ago with gender incongruence, but have never met — and will never meet — the Harry Benjamin definition that some trans folk still insist on.
